OGUNDOYIN’S AGENDA FOR STATE LEGISLATURES

Following the need to strengthen democratic institutions including the legislature on the continent, the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has pledged to refocus the Conference to be more responsive to the yearnings of Nigerians.

Ogundoyin, who succeeded the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, is expected to serve a two-years, within which he has promised his readiness to place the Conference on a higher pedestal by working to make it more relevant in the grand scheme of things in the country.

According to him, “We shall equally ensure a connection and network with other parliaments, parliamentary organizations and various notable institutions across the world”, promising to set up a regional peer review system that would take to account how well government at all levels respond to their duties of citizens welfare.

The Chairman further noted that the Conference shall strive to inculcate in various Assemblies, global legislative best practices, strengthen oversight functions and build capacity of parliamentarians across board for efficient discharge of their responsibilities.
