The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Austin Akobundu is a man known for performance, and results. A performing senator that he is, Akobundu came into office a litte over a year ago and has left no doubt in that he is a senator known for quality representation and impactful service to meet the needs and aspirations of his constituents.
Akobundu has so far engaged in responsive and transparent legislative interventions, consistently working to attract tangible dividends to his district and the nation. These include: sponsoring and supporting legislations that provide for the well-being of the people of Abia Central Senatorial District, attracting and facilitating projects and programs to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, technology, and economic opportunities.
In addition to his legislative duties, Akobundu regularly engages with constituents to seek input through consultations and constituency outreach programmes.
His collaborative efforts as a leader and deep interface with stakeholders has brought harmonious growth and development to the District. Akobundu before emerging as the Senator representing Abia Central, served as retired as a Colonel in the Nigerian Navy. He thereafter served as a minister of State for Defense under the Jonathan administration, the National Vice Chairman (South East), and National Organising Secretary to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Training and Empowerment
- Sponsoring of 113 Abians on a three (3) year full scholarship to the National Teacher’s Institute (NTI).
- Training of 100 youths in Abia Central on sewing and farming.
- Training of 400 youths/students on computer coding, robotics, and engineering which lead to the creation of game applications, animated cartoon characters, designing and building of housing/real estate and vehicle prototypes with facilities and fittings.
- Training of 150 youths in Abia Central on cosmetology and paint making.

- Construction of six (6) Skill Acquisition Centres in six (6) Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Abia Central Senatorial District.

- The Solar Powered ‘Light the Market Initiative‘ (12 markets in six (6) LGAs of Abia Central Senatorial District).
